Make the route to theLook for the Galayos It was one of the few main routes I had to do in Gredos. Wing Mira (2343m) we have climbed in infinity of occasions, but always by Holes of the Hawthorn since we were closer to Avila. It is also a beautiful route but only gave a view of the Galayos from the top. Now it was the turn to walk glued to these stone colossi, so admired by climbers.

Route to the Mira through the Galayos (Sierra de Gredos)

On any given Saturday and this time without company, I decided to make the route to the Mira through the Galayos. That day for reasons of time I hit a good early morning to be in the Nogal del Barranco platform (1133m), in the town of Guisando, at 07:30 AM. It was night and in a hurry I didn't wait for the first rays of light to appear.

The platform has space for several vehicles and those who do not enter, usually park on the road. There is a map of the route and a restaurant, ideal for a snack when the route ends.

You take the stone path to the first building, without loss, crossing a dense pine forest. In fact this will be the monotony of the next hour. A road that looks like a highway due to the good state of conservation and from which there is no need to deviate. This path follows the path AV AV-43 and the AV-20, whose detour to this second we will find after walking 20 minutes and we should not take. Our path is easy, just keep going straight and leaving the stream of the Galayos slope on our left all the time while we are gaining altitude gain.

My pace was fast, something logical when you walk alone. I just came across some early risers that later I didn't meet anyone until Victory shelter, at 1970m. In fact I arrived at the place called “The tightness”(1700m) in 1h and 5 min. Here the road deviates in two, the normal one goes to the left and the one attached to the Galayos to the right. The decision was easy, if we want to admire the Galayos the best thing was to separate a little, therefore on the left. This one would leave more on that side the Juniper Risco of 1927m.

When we deviate we will take a huge zig zag that climbs the steep slope of the mountain. A place where we have to keep an eye on where we place the foot since the slips are the order of the day for so much loose stone. But also pay attention to the Galayos, we already have them in front !!

It is important to tell that if we had taken the other path, in addition to being shorter, it is in worse condition and is harder to be in a straight line. In any case both end up in the same place, the Victory shelter to 1970m.

Several people had slept in the shelter and two of them outside. They told me that they were very cold since that day when I passed through the port of the Pico the thermometer of my car marked -2 degrees ... But beware, this face of the Sierra de Gredos is much hotter. The shelter scored 4 degrees at night.

From the shelter the road changes completely. This becomes anarchic as we climb a steep pedregal. It is by far the toughest part of the route and where in theory we will have to take it more calmly. It is best to go slowly and observe the cliffs on our right as el Torreón.

Besides, I don't go alone anymore. I have the company of a good group of goats from Gredos They do not stop jumping between cliffs in search of grass bushes. They are not afraid, a pity, all because some will have fed them ...

La Mira por los Galayos - Guisando

We have already passed the strong ramp and we are around 2200 meters. We have the Galayos at our feet and almost give us the view to see them all together. One last.

Now it's time to finish the job and climb to the top of the Mira to 2343m. This part is by far the most boring. A path aesthetically not very graceful, with not much slope and where in the distance we see a tower of stones that culminates the highest area.

La Mira por los Galayos - Guisando

After 2 and a half hours I was already at the top. 4 hours were marked from the platform, so the weather was not bad. I forgot to take a picture, so it is best to take a file.

Circular Route through the Mira de Gredos - Winter Photo

Of course, I did not forget to make the traditional photo towards the circus of Gredos, where you can see the Almanzor, the Galana, the Morezon and the Nevada Head among others. From here I took a snack and started down the same way there. That's where I started to find huge groups of people. Many of them clubs.

Even so, they did not slow down my descent, and after a little less than 5 hours I was in the parking lot. My challenge of being able to return for lunch was achieved.
